JDSU to Validate Rich Communication Suite (RCS) and Voice over LTE (VoLTE) Multi-Vendors Deployment Strategies in Global Interoperability Test Event

Milpitas, Calif., Sept. 20, 2012 - JDSU today announced that it will be participating in the RCS VoLTE Interoperability Test (IOT) Event 2012 organized by the MultiService Forum (MSF), ETSI, and GSMA. The event will be hosted by Telecom Slovenia Group in Sintesio, Kranj, Slovenia and by China Mobile in China Mobile Research Institute Laboratory in Beijing, China, from September 24 to October 12, 2012. MSF will publish a whitepaper following the event to share the results and findings.

RCS enables mobile network operators to deliver enhanced social networking user experience through its comprehensive enriched suite of communications services. Those include instant messaging, chats, content sharing (media, location, file), address books, as well as social presence on top of enterprise-grade conversational voice and video sessions. RCS greatly simplifies multi-mode communications between users and devices connected through any network type, offering intuitive and consistent user experience seamlessly integrated on 3GPP standardized IMS platform.

JDSU, the only test and measurements specialist participating in this event, will provide its technical expertise as well as its innovative network and service enablement solutions. JDSU¡¯s industry-leading interoperability experience enables the delivery of high quality RCS and VoLTE services over next-generation networks and technologies.

¡°JDSU is excited to again be part of such a pivotal series of interoperability test events critical to enabling the future of LTE and 4G technologies,¡± said William Vink, a practice leader in JDSU¡¯s Communications Test and Measurement business segment. Vink, also a member of MSF¡¯s Technical Committee Leadership Team, added, ¡°We are honored to leverage not only our experience working with the largest LTE/4G deployments worldwide, but also our innovation expertise based on close collaboration with mobile network equipment manufacturers and service providers.¡±

JDSU¡¯s Signaling Analyzer Real Time (SART), one of its industry-leading communications test and measurement solutions, will be used during this event. The solution will validate the core network interfaces and multi-vendor deployment strategies for RCS and VoLTE end-to-end services deliveries over 3GPP LTE Evolved Packet System (EPS) and IMS Core Network Subsystem, in reference to GSMA RCS, VoLTE related Permanent Reference Documents (PRDs) and MSF/ETSI testing scenarios.

¡°JDSU¡¯s commitment to the RCS VoLTE IOT highlights the significance of this technology for the telecommunications industry,¡± said Kyu-Ouk Lee, MSF president. ¡°The MSF, ETSI and GSMA are working together to validate the standards that support it.¡±

Kyu-Ouk Lee added, ¡°The RCS VoLTE Interoperability event reflects the MSF¡¯s commitment to carrier-driven interoperability events that validate key merging standards and technologies, including key network interfaces that ensure multi-vendor deployment strategies for RCS/LTE/EPC/IMS technology. We are pleased that JDSU is participating at the 2012 event.¡±

About the RCS VoLTE Event 2012

The MSF, ETSI and GSMA are working in partnership to host the RCS VoLTE 2012 Event, to be held in the Fall 2012. The event builds on the major success of the previous MSF VoLTE Interoperability Event that took place during September 2011 and reflects the MSF¡¯s, ETSI¡¯s and GSMA¡¯s drive to continue to deliver major carrier driven events that benefit all its members in their quest to keep pace with an ever faster moving industry. The MSF/ETSI/GSMA VoLTE Interoperability test event will focus on validating core network interfaces to ensure multi-vendor deployment strategies for VoLTE and RCS technology and will validate the MSF/ETSI testing scenarios developed to incorporate 3GPP LTE/EPC technology and GSMA technical recommendations, focusing on Voice over LTE and RCS, with the support of hosts China Mobile in Beijing and Telecom Slovenia Group at the Sintesio lab in Kranj, Slovenia. http://www.msforum.org/interoperability/RCSVoLTE.shtml
